| |  | The North Eastern Region of India is comprised of the states of Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. The forest of North Eastern India is rich in biodiversity and timber, while the cultural complexity of the region is extraordinary. While the North Eastern region constitutes only 8% of the country's geographical area, it comprises over 25% of the country's total forest cover. The region is mainly mountainous in nature and inhabited by over a 100 different tribes each with its own distinct culture and traditional system. The water shed of this region are critical catchments that regulates hydrological flow to some of the world's most densely populated agricultural lands and cities, including nearly 250 million people in Bangladesh and Eastern India.
