CFI Director Presents Research Findings At COP-8, New Delhi, India
The Eighth Session of the Conference of Parties (COP-8) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change met in New Delhi from October 23 to November 1, 2002. Mark Poffenberger acted as Chair of the panel, How Can Poor Farmers & Foresters Benefit from the Clean Development Mechanism? at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) side event along with members of the Indian CFI Research Team: Emmanuel D'Silva, N.H. Ravindranath, and Indu Murthy. D'Silva shared a
powerpoint presentation he developed based on the latest CFI publication, The Clean Development Mechanism and Village-Based Forest Restoration: A Case Study from Adilabad District, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The John D. And Catherine T. Macarthur Foundation Awards CFI for NE India
The MacArthur Foundation has announced ten grants totaling $3 million in support of conservation and sustainable development work in the Eastern Himalaya, the mountain region of eastern Nepal, Bhutan, China, and Northeast India. CFI received a grant of $180,000 over three years for Community Forest Management in Northeastern India: Facilitating Regional Policy Development to help develop guidelines for regional community forestry policy in Northeast India.
CFI Awarded Grant to support Women-run Self Help Groups in India
The International fund for Agricultural Development based in Rome, Italy recently awarded a technical assistance grant to CFI for Formation of a Self-Help Group Federation, Adilabad District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
(Click here for more information) The project's goal is to assist the women-managed Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to manage natural resources and develop livelihood-generating activities through the creation of a federation of SHGs.
